![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The beastly Radeon R9 295X2 from AMD, a water-cooled monster with a power of 11.5 teraflops, was until now practically the only option to play 4K with decent frame-rates until the arrival of the Maxwell architecture. The shock wave doesn’t end there, because there are also ramifications in the dual GPU market. With overclocking the GTX 970 also outperforms the standard GTX 980 in many applications, something to keep in mind knowing that the second is 65% more expensive. But Nvidia is also affected: the GTX 780 is history, while the 780 Ti, until a few months ago an interesting option, is also relegated to an irrelevant position. The headlines are these: AMD’s R9 290 and R9 290X – the top of the line – are outdated: they get too hot, consume too much and are inefficient products that Nvidia’s new graphics easily outperforms. Its price is around € 360, which is not cheap, but its performance ratio per euro is so high that there will be those who even think that it is not worth going for another high-end card, and that includes the GTX 980 itself. In fact, it even looks like a missile aimed at the high-end GPU market, designed to cause maximum damage to the competition but with the side effect of also affecting several cards from Nvidia itself. The GeForce GTX 970 is a rarity, a product destined to turn an entire market upside down.
